About us
In 2011, after many years of working as teachers, Jonathan and Jill decided to have a change of direction.
They purchased a house in the south of France and opened it up as a Chambres d’hôte (Bed and Breakfast) business. At the same they prepared for work in a new area, but one that has been part of their lives as teachers, building upon their previous experience.
Jill had been a teacher of the deaf before moving into international schools where she taught a succession of Primary classes. English, and how to enable young people to acquire this, became a focal part of her life particularly as most of her pupils were second language speakers of English.
Jonathan started off as a Primary teacher. He became a Primary headteacher and then, once in international schools, a headteacher in all through schools (aged 3 to 18). As well as working with students of all ages he has also worked with adults – as headteacher it was his responsibility to ensure that all documents in school, or going out from school, were in good, correct English. Often his staff were not native speakers of English (and the audience, the parents, also not native speakers) so he was often involved in proofreading and correcting documents. This lead to some work with local companies, correcting the English on their websites.
So, alongside running the B & B, Jonathan and Jill have turned to developing a proofreading business, building upon their experience in schools and their own passion for good English. They both want readers to be able to understand what is written easily and correctly, so are always focused on providing English text that is grammatically correct, accessible to the reader and a joy to read. This is what they will provide for you if you entrust your work to their care!
